Back to my family history and my Mother’s deeply
rooted UEL (United Empire Loyalist) pioneer family history and heritage,
arriving in the Hamilton area (Stoney
Creek) in 1791, is
known by some. This will become more apparent to many of you when important Canadian
History is played out each summer at the annual, Battle of Stoney Creek
re-enactment at Battlefield
Park in Stoney Creek. Some
would credit and have plainly stated, my Great, Great, Great, Grandfather, from
my Mother’s side (her maiden name “Martha Green”) who’s name is William Green (better
known as “Billy Green the Scout http://www.battlefieldhouse.ca/billy_green.asp”)
as being partly responsible for us being Canadians here in this area, that, instead
of United States citizens. The lineage is Martha Green (My Mother), William
Arthur Green, John Wesley Green, William John Green, Billy Green the Scout. My Great,
Great, Great, Grandfather is also sometimes called Canada’s Paul Revere (see
book called, Billy Green Saves the Day” ISBN 978-1-55488-041-6, by Ben Guyatt,).
Some credit hisbravery, life and death concern, swift, timely and agile response of June 5th, 1813 to the arrival of a large American troop invasion of this area, as crucial intelligence and cumulative influence, which would play a pivotal factor to the outcome of the War of 1812.
In short, based on our family history, the timely intelligence Billy Green delivered to the British at Dundurn Castle (Burlington Heights as it was know then), would be mostly by horseback. This, after escaping death from gun shots, and his brothers Levi, Freeman and brother-in-law Isaac Corman, also narrowly escaping, by hand to hand combat and ingeniously acquiring the secret American Password (countersign; Wil Hen Har) by convincing an inebriated American soldier that it was in his best interest. Billy then jumped on their horse “Tip”, that dark foggy night and Godspeed, to warn the British, the Americans are coming. After convincing the British, who wanted to hang him upon his arrival, that he was not a spy, only by being recognized by a half Irish, half Native scout who knew him, to confirm his credibility, he would disclose to the British, the following; (1) the absolute and immediate urgency to attack that night (something they rarely ever did in those days), (2) American troop location and size, (3) fastest route to attack American troop encampment without being detected, (4) American Sentry secret password or countersign after having forgot it, this he acquired from his brother-in-law, Isaac Corman, (5) upon the British request he bravely lead the British Troops, in stealth of night and fog, along his best known route. But, before commencing the dangerous trek, the British handed him a sword and part of a uniform (a pair of pants and a sharp sword, (see my pictures with both of these original artifacts.) that he was to ware as their Scout in the shadows of a foggy dark night. The journey was burdened with swamps, fog and armed American soldiers or sentry hidden along the way. Billy kept encouraging the British troops to move faster even while being shot at, since he understood the only advantage they had, was the cover of darkness. The odds against them were huge and consequences of failure, was death. He led them for hours in the darkness and fog of that night. Time was of the essence and daylight would soon be upon them and ruin the proposed surprise night attack. At one point Billy called in the darkness for them to hurry and catch up with him to avoid daylight and one British soldier replied to him, “It would be soon enough to be killed” understanding the seriousness of their, what seemed to be, a somewhat hopeless campaign. Billy Green, still today, is attacked and sometimes played down by harsh critics. Yet, Billy Green, lead this “beat up” British force (700), that, in contrast to thousands of arriving, high spirited American forces, with what Billy considered, his duty and simple actions (as expressed in his simple, humble,”1800’s farmer speak” statements, that are almost apologetic in nature (self confessing mistakes he made along the journey), that, would become key, to what helped a rare British “dark of night”, shock and awe, surprise attack, succeed. Some firing American sentries, they were unable to kill, dampened the surprise effect, all the while some surprised American soldiers were still a sleep or waking up to what would become their last morning. Once the British arrived on the battlefield, emerged a Scottish Sergeant, Alexander Fraser, a hero in his own right, who’s incredible actions (led the charge, captured 4 field pieces and 2 American Generals, all in about 5 minutes) were also praised by Billy Green as, “very gallant style” a phrase I believe he heard from an Officer and his own eye witnessed view of the actual battle and the events to follow. This, June 6th, 1813 battle, ultimately became a decisive and major win for the British, Native Indians, pioneer families like ours and people like you that now live here as Canadians (however not immediately apparent to the British General at the time, probably because they were so out numbered and even he was astounded at the result and few would be able to see what was going on in the midst of fog, darkness and gun smoke).
This battle helped form our present Canadian border where it stands today by setting the American forces in retreat mode by psychologically instilling fear in those who were able to flee and survive the surprise attack. Much credit is to be given to, of course, all soldiers, local natives and other settlers who battled the Americans on the battlefield and from the mountain brow and helped significantly, to hasten the large American retreat. The large American force was surprised, without Generals, over whelmed, terrified of the Natives and all these and other combined factors would ensure the ongoing American retreat. Billy Green the Scout was given a pension for his heroic war services and modestly never claimed to be a hero, officially or otherwise. He merely stated “I did my duty”. His name is on a plaque mounted on the outside of the tall stone monument in Battlefield Park in Stoney Creek. Do you think for a minute, my Mother, Martha Green (her maiden name), would ever let us forget this as kids? She, a historian in her own right, was always very proud of our heritage and knew it in detail as passed down in our family.
Well now, my dad, Robert (Bob) Hamilton (aka Hammy by his close friends) and that side of my family are immigrants from Scotland, hence the Hamilton Clan. My Grandparents are from there, and my Grandfather, William (Bill) Hamilton came here after being shot in the leg in the First World War. I would also call him a war hero after studying that war. My sense, after seeing an intense, horrific PBS Great War Documentary about World War I, is that soldiers either died or were wounded, and the very lucky ones were wounded. I cried as I watched that hellish war documentary thinking of him as a young man on that shocking bloody battlefield of the Somme in France. It is no wonder he never spoke of it. Similarly, when Billy Green was asked, his records are relatively brief and to the point, “he fought at Stoney Creek and was not wounded” or “William Green did his duty”. I believe the ugly images and actions of battle make these conversations very emotional and extremely painful for them.
On a much lighter note, Grandfather was a good childhood friend of the famous English performer, George Formby. They both spent time together, at jockey school in Ireland, and much high jinx was had while “Leaning on the Lamp post”, a song made famous by this busker, movie actor, musician, singer, actor, entertainer. As youngsters, they tried to run away from jockey school in one of their adventures, by stowing away on a ship. Police discovered and removed them, just as the ship was readied and heading out to sea. Hours later, the same ship was torpedoed by the Germans. I am unaware of any survivors. This family history would always remind me how lucky I was to have been born at all, and keeps me grateful. I called this my “attitude of gratitude” and that attitude, I hold dearly to this day. This is a great source of happiness, to be sure.
My Own Life Experiences, Career Accomplishments, and Who I am
Now about me, having obviously come from quite a hardy heritage and courageous family with very strong ties to this community, I believe I have inherited some of the same adventurous spirit, courage and strong ties to our community. That is probably obvious because I’m running for mayor of Hamilton. Being of half, Scottish heritage has given me a bit of that Brave Heart grit and fighting spirit and I believe the city has it too. For the most part our early family heritage here was farming, dairy, flower and lumber mills and hard work, my sense is times were tough and it didn’t get that much better when my parents were born while being themselves raised in the dirty 30s of the depression. The attitudes and lessons taught to me by my parents, about work ethic and hard times, would always stay with me. My generation could be considered the lucky ones and most of my parent’s later years, who are both gone now, would get to enjoy the post war boom in this great, dynamic manufacturing, industrial dynamo called Hamilton. My Dad and Grandfather would play there part as employees at National Slag and Stelco respectively as they were previously known. Now LeFarge and US Steel. My Mom worked at Stoney Creek Dairy. Sadly, Stoney Creek Dairy is also leaving Hamilton, ending a local historic tradition of excellence. As a child I would sometimes cry as she headed off to work in her pink uniform and her yellow apron. She worked the evening shift so she could put us to bed, tuck us in and kiss us good night. What loving memories.
She, later in life would use her academic skills, genius IQ, and become a writer and author. As kids we were spoiled at least once a year with vast numbers of presents at Christmas. If it was one of your goals for us to have more than you, Mom and Dad, you did succeed in that respect. I was born on Quigley’s Rd., conceived by my loving parents, and delivered at the Nora Frances Henderson Hospital (Juravinski Hospital). I believe my doctor was Dr. Kemp at that time. We originally all lived as a family at my Grandmother’s (Grace Green) small farm house. This was when that area was all farms and a dirt road. It was beautiful, dangerous and fun as a child. I believe I was four when we moved to our own place in Vinemount, (Stoney Creek Mountain area, historically known as Green Town, named after our family). It was a nice ranch house in the country on Green Mountain Road. I believe the road was named after my ancestors as well.

I had my first kiss in a back yard 3 ring blowup pool with the girl next door (Wendy). I had a dog named Rex, a large German Shepard, who one day was recruited from my uncle’s back yard and became part of the police canine unit and would save an officers life. I believe we read about it in the Spectator years after we gave him to my uncle George Green because we were moving to the city. Our front yard had a great willow tree to climb and hay lofts at nearby neighbours farms to swing rope in. What a great and joyful childhood I had. I lived there till I was almost five when we moved to the Rosedale community. We lived at 166 Montrose and I first went to school at Rosedale Public school.
It was tough for me at school since I had trouble cutting my Moms apron strings. She helped me when I needed it most, since I had not gone to kindergarten at Tapleytown School because the one room school house did not have that group of pupils. My Mom would spend many, many hours helping me with school work, she was my greatest supporter. She would also inspire my political senses early in my life with her passion for “Trudeau Mania” and the “Kennedy’s Camelot”. However, I soon became an athlete in track and field in Rosedale and was awarded a ribbon at the Canusa games at Civic Stadium (Ivor Wynne) in a big race with Americans from Flint Michigan. I believe I should thank, John Wade for this major break through in my life, so, thank you Sir, for my experience and all the great work you have done for so many at the Canusa Games in Hamilton. This, thanks to him, was my first big win on my own terms and this achievement would for the rest of my life, remind me that I could win, even on an international stage. It felt wonderful to make my parents proud. That feeling would be something I would try to continue to attain for many years to come.
Kings Forest, Red Hill Creek, the Rosedale pool and the odd return to Quigley’s Road were frequent bike trips and hikes that were absolutely heavenly as kids. I still sometimes dream of when, as a child here, I would lye on my back in the tall grass of these meadows, peacefully staring into the white puffy clouds. This activity would often help me concentrate and inspire me with new ideas. I was always good at ideation, creating new ideas and concepts, invention, innovation, design, problem solving and building things throughout my childhood. This continues right to today, thanks to my Dad, his guidance, tools and his great workbenches. He would be a great mentor and catalysts for learning and fun during my childhood and adolescence. Actually, even as a young adult he helped me buy and rebuild my first car, a white 1962 Corvette. At eight years old we moved to Cumberland Ave. at Blake St., a few doors down from my Grandparents. My Grandparents moved there from Emerald St. N., the neighborhood I presently live in. I attended Adelaide Hoodless School, made new friends and helped to win a few team championships in sports, thanks to Mr. Cranfield and Hampton. This, even though I was quite small in stature, unassuming, and way too cute. Ryerson Public School knew we were a force to be reckoned with, but so were they. Politically, I remember joining the Cook family down the street and shoving political signs on people’s lawns. In 1967 I won a Canadian Centennial Athletic Gold Award, one of only five males in the entire school to receive that honour. It seemed to me that my teacher at the time, Miss Anderson, who was the girls PE teacher almost fainted when she heard my name called at the presentation ceremony. She was on her feet jumping for joy, she never saw me the same after that. Academically, I skipped a grade thanks to Ms. Pottinger (a real historian and political junky, she really inspired my political interests) and that helped build my confidence. I enjoyed being a Cub Scout at Ryerson Church and a member of the Christian Boys Club at St Peters Church. Besides loving the floor hockey and boxing, I built a strong spiritual sense and loved living here, I thank them for that. My two main competitors in this election were born and raised, one in Holland and the other in Italy. I wonder if it was as much fun there as it was here. I also felt good about receiving a number of Citizenship Awards from the school board. I went to Prince of Wales School on a regular basis to visit Mr. Dickson for industrial arts class, I enjoyed it and I was very good at it, thanks to Dad, his guidance and our home workshop. Adelaide is also where I would begin my early political career having been voted in, as a class representative of sorts, as what was known then as a Prefect. I worked for the Hamilton Spectator delivering news papers on Balsam Street and had my first employee since the paper route was so large. I earned the title of Super Mouse from Ms. Cooper, my literature teacher at Adelaide Hoodless School.
I hope she approves of my writing. I attended West Avenue School for a time while I lived at my Grandparents house on Emerald St. North, near the tracks, while my Mother was sick in the hospital. My Mother was a great hostess and over the years loved to entertain, sing, dance and played a little piano. She came by it honestly since her dad (Grandpa, born Nov., 22, 1873 died 1935) who died when she was only three, (Mom was raised primarily by her older sister Eva Green (Pattison) ), was a professional musician and worked Vaudeville in New York and played flute and piccolo in John Philip Sousa’s private band in the USA. As kids we enjoyed this heritage and learned to do the same in our own ways. She organized many house parties and dances with many good friends, relatives and musicians. Garnet Potruff (Potruff and Oliver Realty) and his family were frequent guests along with many other close friends and relatives. Pinky (Garnet Pottruff) as he was known to my Dad, invited my Dad to go to the east coast in recent years but sadly they both passed on before making the trip. Pinky called my Dad, Hammy and always spoke highly of my parents. Come to think of it, my Mom, called my Dad, Hammy. I worked with him and his son Jim in the last few years on some house purchases, just before he passed on.
I graduated from Adelaide Hoodless and moved on to Scott Park High School. In grade nine I had begun to show leadership skills and was elected to the Staff Student Committee, to represent about 10 grade nine classes. The next year I was elected to be President of the Audio Club and Stage Crew which I did till I graduated, thanks to Roy Miller. This position gave me employment with the Board of Education with Mr. Hugh Hutton as boss. I managed and facilitated the rented auditorium, which was state of the art at the time, by being the leas son and technical support for touring, ethnic theatre stage productions and others groups, as well as all school play productions. The Hamilton Automobile Club Productions were another frequent client I worked with, among several others. Having missed many classes with this job, I arrived at math summer school at Sir John A Macdonald where I got to see the great theater that they have. I had a few other summer jobs as well, cleaning at Eaton’s, East Gate Square and running a punch press to make manure spreaders at International Harvester.
I think those jobs were somewhat related. Having always worked through school and summers, I immediately went to work after Scott Park graduation. I took a millwright apprenticeship at Dofasco because few companies were offering Electrical for which I was trained for at that time. My Dad was proud of me since he often worked on site at Dofasco with National Slag in the pits. He knew Dofasco as being a great Company. I took that position and learned a lot but later felt I would be better off in the electrical field for which I was specially trained at Scott Park. Teachers at Scott Park, Mr. Streker, Zsiros and Chaplin helped form my skills for my first electrical career at Dofasco. I wanted to move to the Electrical dept. at Dofasco but they would not transfer me sighting some deficiencies in my school curriculum and strict company policy. I courageously decided I could overcome both obstacles and situations put forth by this large international conglomerate by meeting their needs. After defining the requirements, I was told I had to quit, qualify, and just maybe, I would be considered with all other qualifying candidates, and only if electrical positions became available. I was determined, quit, and went back to school to a semester at Barton High School and aced my courses (honours). After much time and negotiation, I got the electrical job at Dofasco. I was one of the very few people in those days to quit Dofasco, and get rehired, under such circumstances.
This is what I understood having been told at the time by bosses, Earl Cavanaugh, Bob Wira and Mr. Dicarlo. I thank them all. I suppose, I began to create my successful negotiating skills quite early in life, even with this giant industrial conglomerate. I am still thankful to them and this great Hamilton employer and educator. I went to Mohawk College to take electrical courses as part of my job at Dofasco. I got very good marks and completed my courses at Mohawk College. I left Dofasco after about 5 or 6 years there and decided to make a career change into business. For a brief period I worked for Joe Nusca of Arctic Refrigeration, a great Hamilton Company since 1945, and got to see Joe run his business and I am thankful to him. However, at the time, I really wanted to get a job with a company that had a formal business training program so I could learn and understand how other businesses worked. I lucked out when a buddy told me about a company he worked for which used a business training course modeled after the IBM Management training. I got the job, studied, worked for some time and trained; as a result, I ended up in Vancouver as President of my own business with a partner. This partner was an old buddy from Dofasco and childhood friend. We had about 6 employees, both worked hard, made some money and both decided to take a new job offer from Sunridge Developments Corp., a dynamic company which was actually my tenant at the time.
A fast, exciting, growing, residential renovator, builder conglomerate, active in the development business, insulation business, sunrooms business, asphalt seal coating business, in house civil engineering, and specialty exterior coatings businesses. I did my job well and was promoted to sales manager of all divisions of this dynamic company. The owner, Steve Davis, a smart, talented, MBA, P. Eng graduate from UBC, University of Western Ontario with PCL construction experience was the force, vision behind this “gazelle” company. He was brilliant at designing systems, process development and execution strategy, which always laid a strong foundation for my job and our staggering sales growth we achieved. Steve’s father, a gentleman, humanitarian, an engineer, Rhodes Scholar, Parliamentary Secretary to Lester B. Pearson and responsible for several cabinet ministries for Pierre Elliot Trudeau was a good supporter, educator, political role model for me and our company. I got to enjoy Christmas at there wonderful home in West Vancouver. Steve, John his brother, Dad and Mom acted as family with their gracious generosity, while mine at the time were in Hamilton. The Hon. Jack Davis, would sometimes mentor me in business and politics for the years I worked at Sunridge and just prior to me joining the Sunridge team. It was his and Steve’s influence which convinced us to stay in BC. Knowing my local political interest, Jack Davis kindly gave me a gift, which he personally autographed to me, his brilliant book of politics, called “Popular Politics, How to make Democracy work”.
This personalized gift from Jack Davis always meant a great deal to me individually and my political education. He would sometimes come into the office to say hello and cheer us on. Jack Davis educated me in politics forever and I am eternally grateful to this Canadian political icon and friend. Steve Davis who I recently spoke with, is presently one of the foremost authorities in Canada on P3s (Public /Private Partnerships) and he has told me recently he would help me here municipally with such applicable matters, if I were elected. The Tiger Cat debacle is such a good example.
After a number of years I left Sunridge having been offered a different proposal to do a similar job. I now had plenty of political knowledge and business experience and really enjoyed sales, management, administration, negotiating and deal making. I was becoming a very capable businessperson, negotiator and a good consensus builder. I could get the job done, efficiently and profitably, thanks to the articulate and advanced mentoring of Steve Davis and other talented members from the Sunridge team. Thank you Steve, and thanks to your great family for all your help. Years later I would be partners in business with one of the Sunridge team in California and I still get advice when required from him and other sources there. One of my old partners and good friend there is heavily involved in cutting edge Green Initiatives and confers with Arnold Schwarzenegger on these matters.
But from what I am told, they are far more advanced, than what we are doing here in Canada. I would work to change that. I later worked as an agent in the property maintenance business and negotiated maintenance contracts with large property management companies and pension funds like, Sunlife, Penreal Advisors (now Bentall Group), Royal Lepage, Colliers, Dorset Realty to name a few. I also worked in the high tech business sector related to computer training, software development and finance. I worked at Knills Alarms (became ADT) and managed a store in Burnaby BC for one other security alarm business for Bill Gall and Rick Reimer. I also worked for a Vancouver Publishing Company Called BC Lists and another in New York City.
While in Vancouver I worked in other sales positions and administrative positions, often for Companies I partly owned or for which I was a partner. I built leadership skills and used my visionary nature and goal setting, to make this possible. I was also president, vice president or a CEO of these same companies. Some of these businesses were; (1) the original Symatrix and Netsys Technologies companies (Internet back bone, bandwidth solutions/ SDSSN, Symmetrically Distributed Server System and high throughput internet streaming video, now called CDN, (content delivery network) in the Industry) we were pioneers in these Internet sectors. My old business partner, John L. Sokol, Inventor/Software Engineer is world renowned and a Silicon Valley Icon for his high-tech achievements. (2) Trans Global Motion Pictures (film development/movie scripts production/movie studio development), (3) Trans Global Capital (film/script, finance), (4) Market Media International (commercial and corporate video production). This Corporation is still owned by one of my ex-partners, Joan Gadsby, President of MMI, politician (North Vancouver), famous author, land developer/owner and President of Seaview Villa Estates, executive producer and loving mother. Also (5) Club West (an adventure, excursion social club) and (6) Double Date (a unique dating service). There were others, but this was an entrepreneurial stage in my career that I shared with different partners and employees over the years; one was a politician. One was a stock broker, turned stock promoter. Two, were international deal makers and promoters. One was a Producer who had worked with Roger Corman in Hollywood. One was a CGA in West Vancouver. One was a Stanford computer software guru who co-wrote Unix Berkley.
They were all smart, dynamic entrepreneurs and great to work with. Over the years, I wound down most of these companies and those that were not, I sold my interest. During that time we would frequent the offices of many talented securities lawyers to get documents vetted or advise on financial structures and compliance. This experience educated and helped me to understand the inner workings and dynamics of; stock markets, stock promotion, share, bond, debenture and unit structures for LPs. I went on to learn about private and public offerings, deal making, and many of the elements that make up the financial instruments for businesses and sometimes governments. On one occasion I met Pierre Elliot Trudeau at a party with his Heenan Blaikie Law firm. I asked him about why he was so successful in politics. It was a great and cherished experience, and a real honour to learn about politics from one, I would call, a Canadian legend. At the time I was really there to learn about film finance, limited partnerships and the tax and unit structures, and other entertainment law, because this is one of their specialties and they were very helpful. Another Prime Minister I met was Kim Campbell. I gave her a gift in Vancouver, a book about one minute meditations and she laughed when I told her that I thought that would be all she would have time for. Turns out I was right; she was Prime Minister for four months. Months later I got a fancy letter from the Prime Ministers office. I thought, what could I have done now. The letter was from her and I learned how gracious she is, she very eloquently thanked me for the gift. My entrepreneurial understanding and spirit continues in me till this day. I spent sometime in the USA with some of these partners that were from Vancouver and some US citizens. Some of these ventures took me to, primarily; Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Jersey, and New York City.
I moved back to Hamilton almost 10 years ago knowing my parents were getting older and my Mom was sick. Upon my arrival my Mother passed away. That was devastating. A few years later my Dad died. That was a very tough time for me and our family. When leaving a party at my brother’s house on West Mountain with my girlfriend, my Dad stopped me and said, “I sure wish you could stay longer”. I believe those were the last words he spoke to me before he died that spring, at his summer home. My Dad was well liked by all and he was the ultimate gentleman, I loved him dearly. Prior to these events, I was working with Faema Canada’s President, Mike Di Donato, great guy, (property management and sales) as well as part time for Blue Line cab. Mike was a great mentor for me and together we had success and won some challenging business battles. Later, I had the great honour to work with, and for Dr. Scott Edgett and Dr. Robert Cooper at there Stage-Gate International Corporation (best known as the world leaders in: new product and service development process, for the Fortune 500s with over 5000 clients worldwide). From these brilliant men (of the McMaster University, DeGroote School of Business) I learned a great deal about business and the best practices, best in class, business processes and generally what it takes to efficiently and profitably, turn an idea, to profits for Corporations, the essence of business itself. From my office at Stage-Gate, I got to discuss business and new product and service development with many Fortune 500 companies. Some of which are the largest Corporations in the World, notably Wal-Mart, Exxon, Google, Tyson, Microsoft, Dow and many, many, more. I recall speaking with business men from Exxon and General Electric stating that Dr. Cooper and Edgett were the Gurus of new product development in the world and that they were absolutely elated about the prospects of going to their seminars. I learned the details about international research and development from many large and small cap businesses of the World.
I enjoyed working for them and I thank them both and their great team at Stage-Gate. What internationally acclaimed business talent we have right here in Hamilton! I do not believe most Hamiltonians are aware of these individuals in our midst. I always wanted to learn more about the auto business since I am an enthusiast so; I took a job with Subaru of Hamilton, home of the world famous WRX/STI rally car. However, I do look forward to the day when all transportation rids itself of the need to burn fossil fuels. Thanks to all my wonderful clients, Todd Bossie, the great John Lecluse and his team, my manager, Sue Booth, Ian, Ralph, Laura, Angelo, Gloria and the rest of our team and pit crew, oh, and my international business trainer and negotiations expert, coach, Peter Hubbard, I proudly won the Award for best sales. This honour was bestowed upon me from HBADA (The Hamilton, Burlington Automobile, Dealer Association) presented to me, Feb 13, 2007, at a beautiful banquet hosted by Carmen’s Convention Centre.
The Spectator publication called all of us awarded, “Peak Performers”. Thank you, Hamilton Spectator, I appreciate that endorsement! The continuous training John Lecluse so generously paid for will certainly help me as a consensus builder for the Mayoral position I seek now, Thanks again John and stay healthy, they need you. I would later work, the last few years, with a great group of people at Reliance Home Comfort. I received excellent business training and thanks to all my Reliance clients or customers, many fun filled days. My bosses, Roger Rossi, Rob Justras, Nick Jusdanis, Darren Watson, and Dean Murray, put together some very good business training for me and all the other associates and I thank them for that. I also thank all the associated groups who would spend time training myself and my associates; UEI Financial, Carrier, Goodman, Ontario Power Authority, Amana, Kamsel Financial, Redman Williams, Rheem, Union Gas, Rennai, Viessman, Frontier/Wolseley, and Energuy Canada.
One of my fellow associates at our branch, who was kind to me, very talented, took the time to teach me how to use software he created for Heat loss, and was always forthcoming with helpful business advice for me, sadly, passed away just after I left Reliance. Scott Weisler was a Reliance Peak Performer and I was truly honoured to have worked with him. I enjoyed the Reliance team, their Green Initiatives for Canada and thank them for a great education and understanding of complex, large scale, multi-sector residential, commercial contracting. I am presently an active property manager in Hamilton and elsewhere in Ontario. I am also in the process of developing two new businesses. One, a new concept, social Internet site, and a plan for a lake side green initiative, group home with organic farming. Having been a skilled tradesman at Dofasco many, many years ago, and a contractor in a number of parts of Canada, my technical skills remain in tacked, which have, and continue to allow me to handle some, hands on projects. My twenty four years of business experience, Internet, political and finance skills make me suitable for helping Hamilton bring companies and new jobs to the community. The leadership skills I developed over my lifetime, I believe, make me able to lead Hamilton as Mayor.
What I would do as Mayor as Far as the Hamilton Business Sector is Concerned
(An Important Element of my, Job! Jobs! Jobs!, Initiative)
I would foster and embrace the spirit of business and entrepreneurship, and return Hamilton to the days of “Hamilton the Ambitious City”. I say, “Welcome, Welcome, to the Boom Town”! I understand thoroughly, this part of my new job as Mayor of Hamilton. I am, an entrepreneur, and have been for most of my life, as I am at present. I have worked in business most of my life throughout North America, all but 6 years at Dofasco in the electrical and mechanical departments. But even that experience gave me a good practical education about industry, which I would later in life examine from my business perspective. I have been mentored, while on the job in business for twenty five years. I have been mentored by very accomplished business executives, partners, co-owners and business professors that are business process experts. I have a good understanding and experience in process issues. This experience has given me the business education that allows me to understand the importance of a successful process, velocity and clear benchmarks for success. I appreciate the critical need for change in City Council and the City Hall processes that defy all common sense and have lead to decades of stagnation. The effects on the city are obvious and shameful. I understand business persons, since I am a business person and will change and influence city council to be sensitive and swift in process, to support job creation by supporting the businesses that create them. I would work hard to increase the velocity at which decisions are made to help all businesses succeed in Hamilton and save or create new jobs. Government must create the atmosphere for business success and must be a catalyst for business success. Stagnation, rots our core and prosperity is halted and people lose there jobs. Businesses can be greatly helped and create more jobs for Hamiltonians, by having City Hall streamline, revise and refine the decision making process to increase velocity. I have worked with process experts (some P3s) and would bring all forces to bear to accomplish this business necessity.
Stalled government and indecision in a Global recession is a recipe for economic disaster. The result is bad roads, wide scale poverty, reduced real-estate market prices and abandoned run down properties. I would work aggressively, to keep and support all businesses and young entrepreneurs in Hamilton so the next generation (Generation Next) of business leaders can feel secure and nurtured to success with City Halls support. We are losing businesses, jobs and great minds and talent here in Hamilton. The sad fact is, young professionals, business graduates, talented entrepreneurs are leaving their Hamilton homes and families to other business opportunities else where. This is painful for those families. I know, I did it when I left my family for Vancouver to start my first business. I will meet with business leaders to address the seven matrix (as identified in a “Next Generation Report”) for business success in my strong support of; The Next Generation Project. All parties in Hamilton win because, simply put, jobs are created and people can afford to pay their taxes and the Canada Pension Plan can sustain itself for generations to come. I will see that Hamilton City Hall becomes business friendly and that we excel in all seven elements of the plan. I have other game changing initiatives I am presently researching for the business community as a whole. Jobs and prosperity for all Hamiltonians is good business and foremost on my mind.
Mayoral Candidate Comparison, be sure you have read my Biography to Compare.
Apples to apples comparison, excluding political career or political associated boards.
Please compare the other mayoral candidate’s private sector career or work experiences and history, before they became politicians, to my own. Which was explained above. To be clear, this experience presented below, is prior, to my main opponents becoming career politicians. I have never been a politician with its associated board seats, so, just for fairness, as apples to apples scenario if you will (without prejudice). I will gladly correct this comparison if I’m missing something, which I sincerely hope I’m not; contact me if I have, please! So, based on these parameters and as far as I have been able to ascertain, here is what I found from the internet which is not always the best source, to be sure. With all due respect, I believe, prior to politics and government associated boards, actual work or career experience of my main opponents in this Mayoral race is as follows;
1. Frederick Eisenberger; is from Holland, went to school here and became a real estate agent.
2. Larry Di Ianni; is from Italy, went to school here and became a secondary school teacher and principal.
Why I am Running for Mayor and My Campaign Platform: Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!
I truly thank you for taking your time from your busy schedule and dropping by to see my mayoral campaign website. It is my absolute honour to have you here. Thank you for allowing me a fair chance to present myself and my grass roots campaign. I am what may be considered an underdog in this campaign against two career politicians and others and their formidable campaign machines. These gentlemen as compared to me above have both been in office before and had their chance to make a difference here in Hamilton. I believe I can make a positive change for Hamilton from a different and broader perspective than what we have experienced. I would work towards implementing some process tools to speed up the overall decision making process so the cost to make decisions is less to tax payers and businesses. I would work towards using some high-tech on line referendum tools for the publics input on various issues to obtain a more current and up to date view from constituents. I would embrace and aggressively seek business opportunities and investors to create jobs and avoid a double dip recession. I would work hard to see these opportunities are framed in practical business models that would be sustainable to ensure that business succeeds and the jobs created are here for many years to come. I would do the same for existing business to help them succeed and stop businesses from leaving our community once and for all. I would look hard at how exiting businesses could be stopped, saved and expand to create even more jobs. I would use my vast, broad and “on the job” 24 years of business experience to negotiate strong agreements that are good for the business and the public in a fair and balanced approach so both parties have mutual benefit. I would stress that I see myself as a Jobs Jobs Jobs candidate and would work hard to create opportunities for all citizens, especially the hard hit economic sectors. I think affordable training and financial help must be there for persons displaced by industry sectors that maybe depleted by Global economic pressures or otherwise. Taxes must be fairly handled by all levels of government to offset excesses and overtaxing of citizens. I would ensure money for infrastructure and other forms of job creation is implemented as fast as possible so all may benefit as quickly as possible. That is a brief description of my goals. Read below for more details.
More on My Campaign Platform; Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!
Based on the very recent poll of 750 Hamiltonians by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the main issues are; taxes, jobs and prosperity, health care and the downtown core, in that order. In addition, I have also heard snow removal, HSR route changes, and road repair is crucial, therefore I shall address those issues as well.
I will be listening to you the voter for more. Since you will be my new Boss and I won’t forget it. Mind if I call you Boss? Below I will explain my views and actions I will take to address these issues.
After reading my intentions below and if you share in my renewed vision for Hamilton, which is, a prosperous (Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!), healthy, safe, green, and happy Hamilton, for all who live here, vote for Glenn Hamilton.
That’s Hamilton for Hamilton!
I am New to City Hall and have a Different View Point (New Blood for City Hall);
Having been born and raised here in Hamilton, which was always the ultimate Boom Town known as, The Ambitious City and a fun place to live, I am definitely a hometown boy with spirit. Hamilton as my own name and the many Hamilton City challenges, issues and concerns are close to my heart. Having spent time away from Hamilton, I also have the ability, from first hand experience, to take a broad look at political issues for Hamilton and compare the issue to other cities with first hand experience. That is because I have also had the fortunate personal experience of working, staying and observing other cities, to learn from, and experience their commercial enterprise, politics, social fabric and life styles. This occurred while working in different businesses and experiencing the different economic and sociological cultures of those cities. Those cities are: Toronto, Stratford, Tilsonberg, Brantford, Woodstock, Paris, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver, LA, Atlanta, Jersey City, and New York City. That is, not to say that we want to be like these cities. But rather, learn from their successes as it relates to all aspects, but in particularly, job growth as we work our way out of the global recession. We must avoid a double dip recession. My new vision is to go far beyond that to the days of our Boom Town past, when jobs were always plentiful in Hamilton. I would do that by leveraging my own business experience and associated experts, in process and negotiating skills. I would solicit aggressively to get companies to move here and use a streamlined screening process for private, public, partnership process (P3s) to accelerate decision making and ultimately successful growth of our economy (but this, only when necessary). This is not a panacea, my preference, in almost all cases, to be sure, is unfettered interference of the capitalistic process and free markets, provided that society as a whole benefits. Our salesmanship and negotiations to gain consensus for agreements is crucial and that is my expertise for more than 25 years with numerous associates throughout North America and beyond. This has sometimes been a challenge for our present city hall council. My new tempered aggressiveness, highlighted features and benefits presentations to business, will win us the economic and social advantage, by what we have to offer from our many assets here in Hamilton and Canada as a whole. We would be dealing globally in many cases and our free society and support of that, is our competitive advantage over competing countries. I have spent many years experiencing conversations, learning, and soliciting many large and small corporations in the past, this gives me solid confidence with this process and ultimately my successful vision for Hamilton.
I would like to now take this opportunity to begin to earn your valuable vote for the position of Mayor of Hamilton since I’m trying to move from a very concerned citizen like you, to a position which will allow me to lead us and make a positive difference to the economy and lifestyle of all Hamiltonians. To be clear, I don’t think I am entitled, nor should anyone else, but the position must be earned and I will work hard and smart for you to help Hamilton reinvent itself, and energize, to excel in this new Green Revolution Age. I personally feel a sense of historic responsibility and I think we all should. I believe Hamilton needs an attitude revolution, to regain our strength, to once again take our rightful place as a Boom Town on the world stage, instead of where we find ourselves now. We must now, create a new jobs revolution with advanced green manufacturing and utilize innovation to improve efficiencies in all other sectors! We need to act fast and existing city hall process is challenged, we must be heard and once again earn our new place on the Global Stage. We must care about Hamilton! We must get educated, work, be smart, productive, motivated, have fun, and enjoy our blessed life and the many fruits of our labours, once again! We must love ourselves first and the neighbours and our city! For those of you that think everything is great and wonderful in Hamilton, excellent, keep doing what you’re doing. Please don’t be upset with me because I feel we strongly need many, many, more good paying job opportunities, affordable housing, education and retraining opportunities for every citizen, regardless of age. We all need to embrace and offer practical business help in all sectors to stop companies from leaving and real financing for qualified local startups or expanding existing businesses. I would like to help create, more effective health facilities, finance structures and housing that address poverty head on. We must do all of this as Green as possible in this new Green Revolution! For those of you who don’t know the term and the new meaning for Green Revolution or are familiar with it from decades ago when it meant a reference to agriculture process, here is the new meaning. The term now is used to compare, the age of the industrial revolution, from the technical revolution to the present. It is a move towards economic revival that will need help from the Government on all levels. In essence it is an innovation agenda to create renewable energy from mainly solar and wind. New jobs will come from research and development, the manufacturing and installation of new products to help rid us of the dependence on fossil fuels, primarily oil. The demand for oil will still continue, but instead of burning it for heat and transportation it could be used for more productive applications that do less to harm our environment and quality of life. Nancy Polosi, speaker of the house, in the United States, considered the most powerful woman in America is a major advocate for these changes. An example of such products in development would be a type of roofing for houses and commercial buildings that acts as solar panels so homes and businesses create there own energy. There are many, many more but the time is now to catch up with other countries like Germany and create jobs here at home during this Global transformation.
I am a forward thinker and I will take forward action to move Hamilton back to prosperity and happiness for many more Hamiltonians. I believe we have been lax and let other communities take our place as major distribution hubs for goods and value added service opportunities. We have all the means and geographical advantage over these communities yet we have lost out. We must provide these companies stronger incentives to work here. If you have been paying attention to recent economic reports much has been said about Canada leading the way out of the recession, but sadly, these same reports clearly point to Hamilton as the laggard or loser and this is felt by many Hamiltonians. This is not the Hamilton I grew up in and nor should it be for your children or you or all the single people here.
Strong action, a Hamilton jobs revolution is required and different leadership is required, not the same old stuff we’ve seen for many, years that has lead to a steady decline in industry, manufacturing, and other sectors that has cost thousands of good paying jobs in Hamilton. I would be more aggressive and utilize all levels of government to offer stronger incentives for these opportunities for Hamilton. I would like to engage much faster processes to establish qualified Public Private Partnerships (P3s) when or if required to assertively get agreements so opportunities are not lost to other Canadian communities, or countries. Don’t get me wrong, we have made some good progress in some sectors, you could say great, granted. I applaud the smart work that has been done and I love it, but I do not see this as an excuse for the failure in many other sectors. What has been accomplished is just not enough; a lot more needs to be done! Hamilton was never a place to make excuses! For many younger voters, unless you read about the greatness and history of Hamilton you may not realize that Hamilton has been a Dynamo for new job opportunities, innovation, good wages and strong solid employment, the World over. This is why you have seen so many immigrant families for numerous generations make there beginnings here, including my own family. Hamilton has made history in building the global middle class that allows you the comforts you have today. Check our history and the risks and sacrifices made by past Hamiltonians to see why, you will be astounded. Many years ago, going downtown was a fun and exciting event and you didn’t want to leave! That’s how it was in the past. How could we have let it slide for so long? We must create stronger incentives and opportunities for downtown housing to add density and help businesses flourish downtown.
No more excuses! There are even some conspiracy theories to support the excuses.
Taxes must be fair and balanced and all inefficiencies eliminated. I believe all government levels must be present with help to do this. I believe Hamilton needs that help to rebuild at this point and I would seek that well deserved help.
Lets you and I, make Hamilton, greater than we have ever known it to be. I believe our City’s multitude of resources and its talented people have that capability to soar with some friendly help, bold vision, empathy and leadership. That’s what we can do together.
Yes we, Glenn! , and I mean can!
How I can Help Hamiltonians
Now that you know a lot about me, some of my platform (some sectors under study) and my vast and varied career, I feel I can relate to many voters, people in business and in doing so will do all I can for the voters with my unique relationship of common careers, business interests and experiences. I will use my vision, enthusiasm, business skills, knowledge, political skills, leadership skills, and my proven ability as a consensus builder, team player and get the job done. I am not a career politician like some at city hall. I have been active in business, as a citizen, for most of my life in a number of political campaigns, and have been mostly issue driven and privately active, across Canada. I am a person who has walked the walk and not just talked the talk. My goal oriented achievements, results and skills, as well as, hard work, equal results for voters. You might say that my name has given me a sense of historic responsibility. One of my personal goals is to use this “gift” to fuse the past and the present to work together with the Citizens of Hamilton. Together building a renewed Hamilton by promoting more aggressively and making Hamilton recognized as a vacation destination of more than one hundred waterfalls and install more historical plaques that build city wide tours that expand on our incredible history and our historic sites. Create more bike trails and support our Arts community. We must continue to rebuild our image from industrial to advanced green revolution manufacturing and distribution and continue supporting other sectors that are growing like health care and education. We must help investors and business owners to succeed so they may hire more people and want to stay in Hamilton. We must restore Hamilton pride through education and experiences in its beauty and superb geographical location. I would like to begin leveraging all these incredible Hamilton assets, our diverse, creative, talented, multicultural melting pot of citizenry to attract new enterprise and expand existing businesses. From an early age I felt a genuine sense of identity and mostly pride of being a Canadian. I would like all Hamiltonians to have a sense of identity and satisfaction in being a Hamiltonian from birth. In my case, once grown up and having my own sense of political awareness, I often pondered the true effect that someone like Billy Green really had on our identity as Canadians, in our great country known as Canada. My ancestors were farmers, soldiers, militia, dairy farmers, and flour and saw mill operators. They helped families to safely build there happy lives and successful businesses in a nurturing safe environment. I want to become Mayor for the same reasons and continue our tradition. I have been politically active as a citizen for almost 20 years in a number of campaigns, and have been mostly issue driven and privately active, across Canada. I have been politically active on some level almost all of my life. It started with the John. F. Kennedy assassination when my mother started crying and as a child there was nothing I could do to help her and that hurt emotionally. I then started paying attention to politicians and even did a school project on assassinated Presidents and from then on politics was important to me. As life went on I would often be in support of one campaign or another. I have self studied politics for many years with the help of smart political mentors like the Hon. Jack Davis, Joan Gadsby and others. I know politics is tough business and a hard job but I would get paid to do it, and I’m prepared to give it my all. I am goal oriented and would measure my progress by getting issues solved. I will so enjoy, working to create the renewed Hamilton by reenergizing all the great citizens we have. I will work hard to overcome the challenges Hamilton presently faces by finding effective solutions to better the lives of all Hamiltonians. My sincere concern, acute business sense and humanitarian sensitivity will bring the right, balanced solutions to so many difficult issues Hamilton presently endures. I ask you for your valuable vote, thank you!
As you have read above, most of my education was actually, on the job, related. I have been educated by working with real situations with real consequences and using my complex skill set, vision and primarily leadership skills to get good results. From my early days at Dofasco and my Mohawk College training (honours), I learned that this style of education is very effective and would be the hallmark of my future training and education approach. My business training and political training were similar in nature over my many years of learning. Of course I did attend many business, sales and negotiating courses over the years as part of my work, most notably; Louis Rukeyser Seminar (of PBS, Wall Street Week), Canadian Business Entrepreneur course offered in Vancouver, an on the job IBM style business course, Tom Hopkins training, J. Douglas Edwards, Anthony Robbins, Peter Hubbard Negotiations Training, Zig Ziglar, Webenergy Internet Software Training, On-track Computer Training, Aaron real estate course, Website Development Training and more.
I would be New Blood for city hall with a historical blood line and would do the best job possible. I believe I may not have the finesse of a career politician like some of those I’m running against, but the value of that is questionable. What I do have is common sense my Mother and Dad taught, and many, many years of practical experience in a range of pertinent situations that has given me the skill set, and knowledge that make we qualified to lead Hamilton to the next level of success. My many years of proven business results through negotiations are the facts. As I mentioned I was listed as a Peak Performer in the Spectator years ago. Many other examples of this attribute were evident in my early years of business success and training at Sunridge Developments in Vancouver. This negotiating experience has given me the ability to gain consensus with all decision makers and create business agreements or sometimes referred to as closing deals, or in this Mayoral case, it would apply to getting the appropriate number of votes in counsel to pass the vital and strategic legislation required for the renewal of Hamilton and to ultimately better the life style of all Hamiltonians. This, in essence, is the ability to lead. Leadership! I have this leadership quality and have been chosen for it over and over again in my career and all through school. Leadership is a vital attribute which I began to develop at an early age. It was not something I would recognize in myself for a long time except for the fact that associates would see leadership skills I conveyed and urge me to do so. This is what happened to me recently when friends encouraged me to run in this election. I believe leadership is social in nature and that I have always been fun loving in character from my Mothers early, good host, practices and influence. This means caring for others concerns and creating a goodwill atmosphere, and often some compromise to get decisions and good results for all who participate in the debate or the formation of the agreement or legislation. A fair and balanced approach is my personal style and I always strive for “Pareto-Optimality”. A term and concept I learned early in my business career from one of my early mentors, Steve Davis at Sunridge Developments. I believe he told me he learned this form his MBA studies at the University of Western and that it is a Harvard business school style of business and social science. The term means, all parties in the negotiation are winners or of mutual benefit. A win, win situation if you will. This is what I believe in and it very much resembles the Golden Rule for which I subscribe. This, also, partly explains my many different jobs I’ve held. Sometimes a company policy or new rule did not always meet my view of a fair value proposition and I would see if it could be remedied or modified, or focus on those I considered fair or look for better opportunities to represent elsewhere. Granted, I have made mistakes along the way and endured some rough times, but, I’ve done my best not to repeat them and used those life experiences as learning opportunities. I remain eternally grateful for them and all of my life experiences. You will hear a lot about leadership in this election. Fortunately, I am a candidate with proven results through leadership; this is a much needed element of success, for Hamilton’s future.
Charities and Community, Present and Past;
I am a blood donor, United Way, Salvation Army, and UNICEF, contributor and support Goodwill Centers, Fringe Festival, Walkathons for charity, Children’s Aid and Good Shepard Centers, affordable housing advocate for those struggling to make a fresh start.

Also, Fun Historical Reasons for me to be Hamilton’s Mayor This Term
The 200th anniversary of the Battle of Stoney Creek is coming up in June of 2013 and it would be a great honour for me and my ancestors and family (Billy Green the Scout) if I were mayor during the ceremony. That would be Great! I just remembered my Grandmother (Grace Johnson) and Grandfather (William Green) were married on the 100th anniversary at Battlefield Park in Stoney Creek. My Grandfather also played in a band, apparently his own, that same day for the celebration. In addition, I would be the first Hamilton or Hamilton Clan member ever to be elected as mayor of Hamilton, since; George Hamilton, the visionary and founder of Hamilton, never served as mayor, yet founded the City of Hamilton. That would be very special for me, as the City proudly honours its incredible history and George Hamilton for the first time this year, and I, a fellow Clan member, become mayor. What a great Hamilton Clan legacy tribute that would be.

ReplyDeleteSecond off, "I must have this information because I must be able to mail you your mandatory tax receipt."
FYI, Donations to municipal elections are not tax deductible - Fail!
What can one say? He has said it all!
ReplyDeleteWay too much information and name dropping.
ReplyDeleteTo me, living in the shadow of the Battlefield Monument, the funniest part of this post (other than making me seem like Mr. Pithy in comparison) is that the whole Billy Green legend has been debunked. One only has to read 'Strange Fatality' by James E. Elliott to get to the truth.
ReplyDeleteAs for the merits of Mr. Hamilton's candidacy...I believe he's rendered that discussion moot.
Too verbose ... condense to key points in bullet form!
ReplyDelete. There is no way that any mayoral candidate is going to win this election by kissing the Tiger cats A$$. The truth is if the tiger cats can not make money then let them leave or better yet show them the door.I am opposed to all financial nepotism towards the tiger cats and question what any mayor can do ,if the public do not show interest in the game. To me it comes across as political bull,I have not seen ONE candidate that believes that the tiger cats should go it alone .If they can not make money on there own ,then let them die,but if I am mayor I will stop all financial aid to them that has been shown by others. Why spend tax payers money ,when they do not care about football?
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to run on the grounds of creating jobs ,you had better cozy up to the fact that you are going to need billions from the Chinese, and you had better know how to deal with Beijing. In this city heavy industry is dying if not already dead
I think you missed listing your blood type.
ReplyDeleteAs a busy businessperson, I do not have the time to devote to reading lengthy diatribes. Coles Notes version would have been far more appreciated.
Hell mystoneycreek, he makes Mahesh seem like Mr. Pithy in comparison.
ReplyDeleteWow, if this is only a sneak peak, I'd hate to see the full text - is it a book? Sorry, the long biography dating back to those Mr. Hamilton may or may not be a descendant of, tells me nothing about his qualifications for running for mayor. This tome was just way too long and too verbose for me to even scan it for something of interest. All it did was make me question whether Mr. Hamilton is in fact in touch with the people of Hamilton today, not those of centuries ago. Being born in Hamilton and sharing the same name as this city is not enough credentials as far as I'm concerned - maybe more relevant credentials were listed but I was too tired to look for something that may or may not have been buried in the lengthy lecture.
ReplyDeleteGlenn Hamilton "Ambitious Writer " Sorry any one that thinks the Hamilton Tiger Cat's should be supported with our tax dollars has lost my vote of confidence ! Time that we stop using our tax dollars to prop up private businesses in Hamilton. Pay up Sheraton, Tiger Cat's, Yorkdale Properties Liuna, etc.....we all pay our fair share what makes you so special ?
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine how long Council meetings will run if this guy gets elected?
ReplyDeleteokay first of all.....Mr. Hamilton
ReplyDeleteAll this smoke makes me think you are hiding something.
My main question is...what are your plans for cleaning up centralized areas of this city? Barton St, Sherman, John, and James?
There needs to be change in regards to our children growing up in this city!!!!!
Parks filled with hookers, crackheads, needles and punk kids looking for fights!
I feel like we are starting to live in NY!
There were many promises made about cleaning up Barton St businesses and what happened? Apparently they worked on it for about 2 days..
please inform your captivated audience what you have in store for us...
WH ED, I agree with you! Do the egotistical candidates actually think we are all so involved in our civic duty to vote that we dedicate hours upon hours a day reading their blowhard self-stories? I love concise people. Someone who can get their point across in a few minutes has my vote. I know they'll use their time wisely in city hall and run their meetings better. Shorter talk, more meetings, more likely to move things forward. Do they also realize that many people who have the vote, do not speak English as a primary language? Dumb move to write too much. People will just go on to the next guy with the shorter speeches.
ReplyDeleteAnn --- I'm a New Yorker, don't be bashing NY City at all. It's been cleaned up! Unless you go to the dockyards at 3:00 a.m., you aren't going to see any of the sludge Hamilton has been breeding. Giuliani cleaned up the city VERY well 15 yrs ago, phone banks and cops on every corner.
ReplyDeleteOur politicians here are just making a mess of things. Did you know that in this city, Recreational Planning has little to NO activities for children between the ages of 12 and 18? The ages MOST vulnerable to the activities you dread, and our taxpayers dollars misspent as they are, Hamilton has NOTHING GOING ON FOR THEM AT ALL!! And if you try to sneak your child in to the 12yr old group or the adult group, you are considered heinous and they'll start keeping an eye on you!!
This city is THE WORST PLACE TO RAISE A CHILD and only those of us who remain completely engaged with our children have a chance at the kind of child-to-adult growth every child deserves.
Shame on Hamilton for building such a reputation and for NOT caring enough for our children.
M.
Hey Mary....I'm with you on the NYC thing! Great place and Mr Giuliani certainly did a great job at making changes - maybe we need him here!
ReplyDeleteWH ED -- OH MY GOD ! What a great idea!!!!!! Hamilton hires foolish, unworthy consultants at extreme prices for jobs which could go to a local, but wouldn't it be brilliant if they brought an American genius who reformed another great city to this one to help tidy up the classroom which is council chambers and improve the state of things here! Great idea!!
ReplyDeleteFor all you candidates out there that want us to read pages and pages and sit for hours on your websites, there are 17 candidates for Mayor and 20 for Council in my ward. I cannot give more than 1 minute a day to each of you. If I don't understand what your point is in less than a minute, I'll chug along to the next one in want of my own sanity and mental well-being. I am not being irresponsible, I am trying to do my civic duty while studying who you are with what little time my personal life allows. I am more likely to vote for someone who is clear and concise. Mr. Hamilton, when I saw how long your story was, I decided that you would conduct all meetings in this long-winded way and be counter-productive as mayor. And then I moved on.
ReplyDeleteFirst sentence of my school project:
ReplyDeleteGlenn Hamilton tries to disguise his lacking platform with a very uninteresting mini-biography.
