Being Fair to the Mayor
Considering the stature of the Office of the Mayor, as opposed to any particular individual that holds the title, and if the poll is telling us anything, what do you believe Hamiltonians should and could do to ensure this next term is respectful of the Mayor's office? Or do you think there is a role at all for Hamiltonians in this regard?

'Fair' treatment would be treating Bratina the way that he treats others: with disrespect and contempt. However, I have faith that the majority of council and the people of Hamilton will treat Bratina better than he deserves. I can only hope that if council and citizens alike show respect for the office of Mayor that he holds, he will alter his past behaviour and behave in a way that is worthy of that respect.
ReplyDeleteIf the Mayor elect is as frustrated as I am with my incumbant councillor I can certainly see his actions being misconstrued as disrespect & contempt! Hopefully all the players including the Mayor can all get along like good little boys & girls & maybe they can actually do some good over the next four years!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I have great respect for the position of Mayor of Hamilton, but none for the incumbent as od Dec. 1.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I would agree that it is far too early to label Mayor Bratina a bad mayor, so let future events unfold.
Civil discourse should predominate among all elected individuals, mayor and councillors, in open council meetings, committee meetings and among themselves between closed doors.
It is an interesting question as to what role ordinary Hamiltonians can have - in principle, I believe there should be a role - to treat elected individuals with respect and demand the same in return.
I don't know how Mr. Bratina is going to put up with these underachievers.
ReplyDeleteI hope Brenda, Judy and Jason help the mayor because he doesn't have a high caliber of incumbebts to work with.
Are you kidding? Bratina was one of the worst offenders when he was on council. One of the lunatics has taken over the asylum, that's all.
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing that everyone is saying to give him a chance.. it's not like he's new to city hall. He was a councillor. That position, too, requires a level of respect for his peers.. he failed there, I see no reason for us to get our hopes up now that he's got a promotion after behaving badly...
ReplyDeleteThe people have spoken. Mayor Bratina! Get used to it. Time to line up and support him. Mayor Fred was too nice. we need someone who won't let council act like prima donna's
ReplyDeletePrima Donna # 1 in the last council is now mayor. There will be no lining to support the mayor from this quarter. If he comes up with decent, workable initiatives and radically changes his behavior, great ! Then I will support him. I'll keep an open mind but will definitely not support him at this point based on his record as ward councillor.
