  1. I voted it should be privatized. Reason? Until council earns its stripes, I don't really trust its business sense.

  3. if the market is privatized, you might as well bring in big investors and interests from Toronto and say we no longer run a family run farmers market we run a market with cheap inexpensive crap that you can get from a local flea market which by the way is private enterprise. We will have the local flea market in the farmers market opening up the stalls to cheap dangly earrings, and job lot stuff. Oh what a lovely thought to our great market. Which by the way is the only place in the city I shop at for my local produce when I live way up here in Mount Hope. I schedule my shopping days on market days. No to privatization is what I say !!

  4. I don't really want to see it be privatized, but council has to stop taking these shots to the head, because it affects their credibility:

    Nonesense.

  5. Advocate I don't want to see it privatized either, I love the farmers market..just a little tongue in cheek poke @ our city council! Seriously everything they touch seems to turn into a fiasco or we lose it to someone else IMHO!

  6. No to privatization of the market. If the city gives up control of everything - why have a council. I would be curious to know if the markets in TO are privatized, as they do very well. Food for thought. No pun intended.

  7. Sorry, but the “Farmer’s Market” has been declining for years...I am good friends with the very few that still sell their produce in Hamilton and they are frustrated beyond words.

This has become a~ free for all~ for products purchased from the Toronto Terminal and elsewhere as opposed to locally grown produce for the most part.

A very sad situation that seems to help only those who want to be a part of a Market that keeps bleeding good money after bad, yet City Hall has to watch their ‘p’s’ and’q’s’ or they may have a politically incorrect fight on their hands.

I sympathize with the mess that they have gotten their selves into, and I sincerely hope they can find a way to correct this scenario and turn it around! I would gladly volunteer to help the cause!

    Have an amazing day everyone.

  8. Chad Collins said "“There have always been issues between the stallholders and the city at the market,” Collins said Monday. “I think there’s an opportunity here to bring in a third party … and take the politics out of the equation.”"

I don't agree with this. What happened to business cases? Is there a strong business case to privatize? Has anyone asked that? Or are we just doing this so that the issues aren't "politicized" ?

  9. They just need to privatize the cleaning staff.
Councillors need to come to the market and talk with vendors before they think they can decide what is best for the market
