Q. Are you satisfied with Integrity Commissioner Basse’s report on the complaint against Mayor Bratina? Do you think a reprimand was an appropriate outcome, in light of the allegation that was substantiated?
A. There are times in public life when you have to make tough decisions. Having initiated the censure against Bob and now having an independent investigation finding Bob guilty is an endorsement of Council's censure and decision to do the right thing.
The Hamiltonian asked merulla if the reprimand was an appropriate outcome of the report. Did merulla answer that question? He says the Mayor was guilty. It's funny because no where in the report do I see the word guilty!
ReplyDeletemerulla didn't answer the question.
In my line of work, the term "guilty" means something. It is not thrown around. Clr. Merulla is one of my more preferred politicians and moreso after he answered the Best Place to Raise a Child vision question. However, make no mistake. Basse goes by the test called "balance of probabilities" which is FAR less a test than beyond a reasonable doubt.
ReplyDeleteBratina is not "guilty" of anything. He made a goofy mistake. Read the op ed piece that was linked above. It will provide the necessary reality check.

Sammy got guts!
ReplyDeleteI challenge you to find any posting anywhere on this blog where Merulla answers directly and specifically to the questions posed to him.
ReplyDeleteI am disappointed in Clr Merulla. He was asked a question by the Hamiltonian. Instead of answering the question, he chose to grandstand.
ReplyDeleteIt shows me that he wants to give one more kick to the cat.
Not impressed!
@ The Hamiltonian. This quote from Merulla was printed in The Spectator today. No mention of The Hamiltonian. Pick better "friends"

DeleteThat is not the case. Clr. Merulla provided the same information independently to The Spectator.
