HWT 2011 Financial Audit
We were advised that it is their firm policy and their professional obligation not to communicate any information about their clients to third parties. Thus, they would not comment on our inquiry.
Of course, we did not ask "What's the hold up?" Our query and the response we received were respectful.

This is a good move. At least they are aware that someone is not asleep at the wheel. Thanks for asking.
ReplyDeleteSome books take longer to cook.
ReplyDeleteNever thought you could get a "snow job" in July. Now I know differently...
ReplyDeleteEverything about this whole thing is odd.
ReplyDeleteThey could be in severe trouble if they answer any questions, at all, to anyone who is not on the Board of the HWT or by court order.
ReplyDeleteThose are the legal rules.
It's up to council, as the main funder, to decide to bring on a forensic audit.
Keep the pressure on them.
Councillor Jackson opened the door for the question to be asked in his recent email to The Hamiltonian.
ReplyDelete"Absolutely no delay on the part of the HWT. Since June 25/12 HWT Board meeting, we are waiting for printed/electronic copies for distribution from the Auditor Deloitte Touche. I have left several messages with their rep in Burlington to accelerate the release. Hope this helps and bye for now," Councillor Jackson....
This is joyful top watch. The Hamiltonian is teaching a lesson on accountability. Council is not used to having to answer.
ReplyDeleteMight I suggest that with the level of service being received from Deloitte that the city consider their slow response when they are bidding on future city projects.
ReplyDeleteUnless they aren't the ones delaying...
I really think that people naively thought that they could obtain confidential information ( even the release date of a
ReplyDeleteof a report is confidential) from a service provider
( auditing firm) and an arms length organization. Deloite was hired and no doubt signed non-disclosure agreements. This contract was between HWT and Deloite and not Deloite and Hamilton citizens regardless if us taxpayers fund this organization.
The "contract" involves three parties Deloitte, HWT and the taxpayers of the City of Hamilton. When the "naive" citizens who are asking questions and not getting answers and the mainstream media shows no concern, we can only keep asking. Thanks to the Hamiltonian and the Bay Observer.
ReplyDelete@Yves Dubeau, Perhaps The Hamiltonian just wanted to "lite a fire" underneath Deloitte.
ReplyDeleteI am not at all suggesting that we should not be asking questions or light a fire, my comments were strictly observational. As taxpayers we elect representation, as it implies, to represent us taxpayers. For us this is a focus point but in terms of running a city, not a big priority. In regards to the agreement in assuming that the auditor sign a three party agreement the same logic could apply to every group or organizations that seeks contributions from council, in my mind this is pure fantasy.
DeleteI don't blame Deloitte. They have been engaged to procive an independent audit opinion. They are not allowed to disclose info to anyone else.
DeleteI doubt The Hamiltonian was truly expecting an answer. If they were, they would have asked again. I think they are sending a signal that someone is paying attention. As MSM continues on it's summer slumber, which started about 5 summers ago, people are looking to sites like this to look after the interests of Hamilton.
DeleteI find it interesting that The Spec and CBC Hamilton are not paying attention to this issue. Epic fail.
