Larry for Mayor?
So, we asked Larry the following:
Q. Any truth to the rumour you are running for mayor?
A. Let me be more precise. The election is fully 2 years from now. Anyone who tells you definitively what he-she is doing 2 years from now isn't telling you anything reliable. So if I say, yes I'm running' or 'No, I'm not running.' Equally would be unreliable.

Well, that settles it. The perfect political answer. Place your bets.
ReplyDeleteSave your money Larry. It's not happening.
ReplyDeleteHope he does.
ReplyDeleteOn July 10, 2006 Di Ianni, along with two other unsuccessful candidates, were charged under the Provincial Offences Act of Ontario for violating the Municipal Elections Act of Ontario.[3] On August 24, 2006, he accepted responsibility by pleading guilty for violating the Provincial Offences Act related to accepting inappropriate campaign donations.
ReplyDeleteSays a lot
Will he? Won't he? If history is any indicator, Larry will continue to feed the rumor mills until 2014 when eventually he will announce that he is running.
ReplyDeleteLike Baldasaro, Larry is our city's perennial candidate who brings soap opera value to Hamilton's politics.
However when he does run, what will be very disturbing is that he will have already been the beneficiary of "free" (i.e. unpaid) air time on Cable 14 for four years, under the guise of hosting a talk show.
As any avid watcher of the infamous "I AAAM Larry" show would attest, he has already on numerous occasions digressed while interviewing to plug his political achievements with a: "In my time in office, I/we did this or that!"
This already amounts to misuse of community media by the politician-in-waiting, and will pose a huge ethical problem when he announces his fifth run for office.
It is important for the producers of Cable 14 to be aware of this situation and mitigate it before they expose their jobs/careers to a potential damning ethical inquiry by CRTC for facilitating "Candidate Larry" with four years of free air time under the ruse of hosting a talk show.
God know there are far more competent and savvy broadcasters in Hamilton who have to go to Toronto for work because the jobs here are filled up by old boys in waiting for political office.
It is for the producer/s of Cable 14 to explain to the public now (or in 2014) as to what the hell were they thinking when they handed over weekly 'public air-time' for four years to an unrepentant career politician.
It is public knowledge that Larry is already holding court in the city. Only a fool would not connect the dots across his weekly TV presence; his hyper-active presence at all community events; his over indulgent twitter lifestyle where he feels the need to tweet 24/7 like a gushing teenager; and his yet unfulfilled political aspiration.
In fact Larry himself needs to access his own political goals and knowing very well that he is going to run in 2014, he needs to grow up fast and stop misusing the cable broadcasting privilege which have been handed to him on a silver platter. He needs to do this right now, and not one week before he announces his run in 2014.
Does anyone know the name of the producer of Cable 14? S/he needs to fix this blatant conflict-of-interest before it turns into a scandal.
I agree..Cable 14 should have him sign a waiver contract where he is to resign two years prior to an election - should he run. He cannot change his mind and decide to run if he signs this waiver.
DeleteExcellent disertation..and observations here Anon
Don't sweat it. He's unelectable in my opinion. Violating the Provincial Offences Act of Ontario made him so.
ReplyDeleteI've seen him in action on Cable 14 and don't think it will do him any good.
ReplyDeleteI also saw him completely alienate a couple of hundred voters at an all candidates meeting in the last election. Whoosh, was the sound of all his support exiting the room during his introduction.
Hopefully, after 2 mayoral losses and a federal election loss he's got the message his time has gone and he should enjoy retirement on his Vespa.
He has a sense of entitlement! However will be thrashed for good measure by a "dark" horse candidate from another ethnic group who will ride into town like in Calgary and make history.
ReplyDeleteAnon, respectfully, Mr. Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary, was not "a 'dark' horse candidate from another ethnic group..." who rode "into town like in Calgary and (made) history."
DeleteMr. Nenshi became Mayor by combining passion, ethics, intellect, door-knocking, social media, and a great desire for change and transforming government. So far, he has succeeded in leading and if Hamilton has a Nenshi-like person wishing to be our new Mayor next term, they best be telling folks now.
imho, Mr. Dianni does not stand a chance because he just doesn't get that a cable 14 program, talking of the past and his role in it, spewing the all-mighty importance of Council, and a Vespa do not a good mayor make. Sometimes, perhaps most times, the opportunity to become Mayor comes but once and Mr. Dianni would be wise, and most helpful to Hamiltonians, to understand this.
Here's a link-look at what a good Mayor is and what he/she can and will do:

I'll bet that Dianni gets a thrill out of seeing the few critics on this site who just shudder at the thought of his return. Go for it Lar'
ReplyDeleteShudder....shudder
ReplyDeletelol...silly summer humour.
ReplyDeleteMr. DiIanni you don't stand a chance no matter who is supporting you. Hamilton is fed up with your shananagans. I think your past may catch up with you very soon, so spare Hamiltonians a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteIt would be very inappropriate for Larry DiIanni to run again for Mayor, just as it would for Fred. My feeling is that one shouldn't dredge up the past. There were reasons why they didn't get re-elected. Their time is over!
ReplyDeleteLets just say Mr. DiIanni has a very interesting past.
