M.I.A.- Missing In Auchmar

According to a report in The Spec., councilors could not make quorum at a special general issues committee that was to discuss the future of  the Auchmar Estate/Mansion. Only 8 councilors were there when the meeting began, prompting The Spec's headline " Auchmar: Where Was Everyone?".

  1. They also lost quorum twice during the GIC meeting of September 6. This occurred during Plessl's presentation on his Waterfront Trust.

  3. So many "special" meetings. It's hard to keep track.

  4. Does the city of Hamilton not remember the Capital theater fiasco? The Capital was beautiful piece of architectural work in downtown Hamilton and it should have been saved. No one tried to save it and when it came down the whole city was upset. Today people still talk about what a mistake it was to have torn down that beautiful building. Why do we not learn from our mistakes? Auchmar is a treasure Hamilton should be trying to hold on to but there doesn't seem to be enough interest even amoung our own councillor's .

We need to save places like Auchmar not destroy them.
As an example one councillor stated "I appreciate our historical buildings that's why I am so involved with the Erland Lee Museum" but has never visited Auchmar. I personally am thrilled she appreciates our historic buildings then why wasn't she there? The Erland Lee is her riding so she should be involved in it. This is the same councillor pushing full force for a rec center in Winona which I cannot figure out why when there is a new center in Stoney Creek, Fruitland road has a new
twin pad arena going in and Grimsby just expanded their arena and rec center. Maybe this councillor should familiarise herself with what is in the Hamilton Wentworth Region that is worth saving as opposed to
trying to make a name for herself by building something not needed.

Let's save our treasures instead of making urban sprawl and losing things we can never get back.
