  1. A call from Jason Farr to Chief DeCaire, would have went a long way.

  2. Perhaps Jason Farr could have contacted the Mayor's office to speak to his advisor on military affairs. I believe his name is Lieutenant Colonel Geordie Elms.

  3. Pretty bonehead move to take a swipe at a respected Police Chief. Specially when you don't have your facts right.

  5. There was NO reasonable advance notice to the public! I find that very suspect.

Toronto is a city used to seeing and hearing helicopters flying low, Hamilton is not. Toronto is also more likely to be a victim of terrorism. Makes more sense that these types of shock doctrine military exercises be more beneficial there, not here. Just sayin.

  6. Helicopter Air Ambulances take off and land at the General Hospital, Fighter jets at Ti-Cat games, Lancaster Bombers, Hamilton air show, passenger flights to and from Mount Hope, Fed-EX Flights. Where do you live?

  7. Well advertised special public events are one thing, emergency helicopters another... low flying black copters with NO lights hovering for hours over downtown buildings are not the norm. Where do you live?

  8. The military are the ones who risk their lives for us. And Farr is worried about "noise pollution"? I think true Hamiltonians would have respect for people who put their lives on the line for us. And calling out the Chief of Police publicly, who, is a man of integrity, just made it much worse.

What does this have to do with the Waterfront Trust? I think the comment pointed out the hypocritical nature of expecting to have information and denying it where the HWT is concerned. I don't think there is much hope for many of these "councillors" to be re-elected. Not after, as was said "9/612"

  9. I guess that low flying black copters with NO lights hovering for hours over downtown buildings are the norm in Toronto. Sorry to be so ill-informed.

  10. This is a practice of martial law exercises, the first slow moving steps to a police state. We are so very much becoming Americanized, and nobody is seeing the big picture. The military rules by force and not by the will of the people. A true Hamiltonian would agree militarism or militarist ideology is not a form of governing we want, where political power resides with the military. Good for Jason in responding to so many complaints.

    1. Get real. Every country must protect itself. Running an exercise is a far cry from what you are describing. Farr goofed on this and acted before having the facts.

  11. The erosion of democracy starts with our elected officials. Back room deals, secret meetings, and the vested interests that they serve. We deserve what we get by returning elected officials over and over again. In the past century many young men lost their lives so that we could keep sending these politicians back into office who fail to represent the interests of the people. Shame on us!

  12. Did anyone complain back in summer '03 when helicopters hovered over Hamilton all day long? No, not a peep after all how could anyone speak out against "the world childrens junior championship bicycle race" These current training excersizes by our military are for our protection and by comparison are important as opposed to meaningless. Thank you

  13. Farr was using this as an opportunity to respond to his constituents. Had he done nothing (likely knowing nothing could be done), he would have looked even worse. It's simple save face for his ward. I doubt he seriously thought anything would come of it. Stelco tower was likely selected since it sits primarily empty, therefore people in an occupied building in Toronto would not have been compromised if still at work. If the Tower were full of leased offices, and people working all hours of the day, it likely would have been not selected.

    1. If Farr was using this as an opportunity respond to his constituents he could have at least called for the proper service/agency to address the issue. Calling for the Chief of Police to stop the helicopters shows he was completely out of touch/understanding.

    2. The Spec is now spinning that Clr. Farr "initially called for the 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron to halt the operation “immediately”. I for one must have read his Media Release improperly! Either that, or the Chief of Police is holding a dual municipal and federal role (sarcasm).

    3. CBC has this video from a military man saying that he understood that Farr was only doing his job. Sheesh, there is more spinning than a bicycle shop. Thanks for posting both press releases. No spinning that.

  14. Interesting dialogue here. I don't think most were complaining about the noise, specifically. I think it is more about giving the public a little heads up rather than startling them by surprise. This is not a routine air show in daylight skies. At first it seemed a little more ominous than that. The term "terrorism" is another subject altogether, which is really a FAKE TERROR-ROAD TO WAR AND FASCISM. Government, especially the U.S., may be manufacturing "fake terrorism". Troops are dying everyday. There has been a shut down in the minds of people who cannot place themselves in the shoes of the families who's sons and fathers and brothers are being needlessly slaughtered for a corrupt elite agenda. People believe whatever they are told and eat it up.

  15. It's 8:10 pm, and this is the fourth pass of the helicopter tonight - my house shakes each time.
Would have been nice if they targeted another neighbourhood, rather than the North End, for this, their second night of rattling our homes.
Fifth pass now...more rattling of windows. Very annoying.

  17. The fly overs are so low, loud and constant that I'm unable to record and mix in my downtown studio. There was no warning to plan around this... my place is shaking and rattling. How long does this go on? It's now twice this week I've lost money and have had to cancel out my clients to reschedule production. Thanks a lot.

  18. I think all the hype is about not being advised ahead of time of these excersizes. I do think the neighborhoods involved should of had some kind of advance notice. Then there would of been no suprises. On the other hand we all owe the military our lives no matter where or who we are. There there to protect and help us. These people risk their lives for us, so please give them credit and remember what it is they stand for.

    1. I'd bet a terrorist attack may be a wee bit noisier. Stop whining about it. It's ridiculous in the greater scheme of things to whine about what it takes to be protected. btw- say thank-you to those who fly those machines so that you can sleep better at night.
