New: About The Hamiltonian

Hamilton's Tastemaker in Local Politics and Community Since 2009

The Hamiltonian is an independent, volunteer-driven online publication dedicated to thoughtful discussion, informed debate, and meaningful community engagement in Hamilton, Ontario.

Founded in 2009, The Hamiltonian was created with a simple belief: that Hamilton deserves a platform where ideas matter, voices are heard, and civic life is explored with curiosity, fairness, and respect. Over the years, it has evolved into a recognized and influential source of local commentary, interviews, analysis, and community dialogue.

What We Cover

* Municipal politics and elections
* Interviews with elected officials and community leaders
* Public policy and governance
* Community issues and neighbourhood concerns
* Opinion and commentary
* Leadership and civic engagement
* Special features and community profiles

Our popular interview series have featured mayors, councillors, candidates, community advocates, and other influential voices who help shape Hamilton's future.

Independence Matters

The Hamiltonian is proudly independent.

Since its founding, The Hamiltonian has never charged readers for access to its content. It has never operated behind a paywall and has never sought to become a commercial media enterprise. In fact, it has never collected a penny.

Our independence allows us to ask difficult questions, explore important issues, and provide commentary free from the pressures that can sometimes accompany traditional media models.

We are committed to calling issues as we see them—fairly, honestly, and without fear or favour. Our other tag line “Sometimes Tough, Always Fair” defines our approach.

Our Approach

The Hamiltonian values:

* Respectful dialogue
* Intellectual curiosity
* Civic engagement
* Transparency
* Fairness
* Diverse viewpoints
* Community leadership
* Participation

We recognize that reasonable people can disagree. Our goal is not to tell readers what to think, but rather to provide information, perspectives, and questions that encourage thoughtful consideration.

A Platform for Hamilton

Over the years, The Hamiltonian has become a trusted venue for conversations about Hamilton's future.

Political leaders, community organizations, candidates, business leaders, and residents have all contributed to the dialogue that appears on our pages. During municipal elections in particular, The Hamiltonian has become a destination for voters seeking in-depth candidate interviews and issue-based discussions.

We are proud to provide a space where both established voices and emerging leaders can share their perspectives with the community.

A Labour of Community Service

The Hamiltonian is operated entirely by volunteers who share a commitment to Hamilton and its future.

What began as a passion project has grown into a longstanding civic institution that continues to serve readers across Hamilton and beyond. The publication's longevity is a testament to the enduring importance of local conversation and community engagement.

Its Publishers, Teresa DiFalco and presently, Cal DiFalco remain its directing minds.

Looking Ahead

As our city continues to evolve, The Hamiltonian remains committed to documenting its journey, exploring its challenges, celebrating its successes, and providing a forum where Hamiltonians can come together to discuss the issues that matter most.

Thank you for being part of the conversation.
