I would certainly agree with you Cal. This was a most worthwhile effort and Chris Murray deserves appropriate recognition. Mayor Eisenberger, in my opinion although others might not agree, is a very good communicator in such a forum.
ReplyDeleteIf only all councillors could put away the petty posturing, narrow territoriality and inappropriate behaviours, this city would be further ahead. Good things are happening and a sensible city council could help out tremendously.
Great initiative on behalf of Chris Murray. He was the right choice for the City! Now if he could control spending taxpayers dollars that would be great. I look at todays article regarding Brownfield loans and how the Director of Downtown Renewal is spinning it as the city being a pioneer after he lost more that $1.1 million on a downtown redevelopment. He claims the city is a pioneer, this type of initiative has been happening in the US for many years. Nothing new, this guy is simply gambling our hard earned tax dollars, would he do the same if it were his own money, I don't think so..... He has a terrible track record. Even his new hire doesn't think we'll recoup the money.
ReplyDeleteHe always says we'll regain any loses through tax increases. Does that mean he'll loan me money for a new home, which I won't pay, but hey, according to him, no problem, the city would absord it because over 10 plus years they'll regain it in taxes. Simply silly.
Time for a shake up and Chris Murray is the person to do so.
Quote from that Spec articles:
ReplyDelete--->>And as for RIM billionaire Jim Balsillie's protracted fight to relocate the Phoenix Coyotes, Eisenberger said: "The more I see of Jim, how tough and passionate and determined he is, how he absolutely refuses to give up no matter what, I can't help but think this guy belongs here in Hamilton."<<---
Well, well, well...I read the Hamilton Spectator this morning Cal and found out that Canada will in fact be getting a SEVENTH NHL team after all......in Quebec City.
Why Quebec City? well maybe because they're doing it the right way? You know? talking to Gary Bettman and the NHL behind closed doors and in private instead of making a spectacle of themselves in the media AND no one in Quebec is selling season's tickets over there before getting an NHL team either. Quebec is doing it the smart way. Watch and Learn Hamilton!!
I beleieve that despite the Mayor's feelings and opinion regarding Jim Balsillie that Rim Jim has messed up our chances of EVER getting an NHL team. Hamilton is guilty because of our association with Jim Balsillie. This also doesn't change the fact that Balsillie is 100% Waterloo Boy.
The Mayor might think that "Balsillie belongs in Hamilton" because of his "no quit attitude" but the fact of the matter is, as mentioned in a recent Canadian Business magazine article in which Jim Balsillie's headshot was on the cover, Jim Balsillie is committed to growing business in what is called "The Technology Triangle" which includes the towns of Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph...and that the City of Hamilton is NOT a part of.
When Quebec City finally gets their NHL team back, the Nordiques, Balsillie will have to create for himself another web site called, "MAKE IT EIGHT"...and then when the city of Winnipeg gets their NHL Jets back in town Balsillie will have to come up with another web site called, "MAKE IT NINE" and then when either Halifax or St. John's gets an NHL team, Balsillie will have to come up with another web site called, "MAKE IT TEN" but by that time NHL will step in and say "NO MORE TEAMS FOR CANADA!"
...but that's ok folks, because we have the AHL Bulldogs in town. Go out and support them like you always do....all three thousand of you.
Best Regards!
